Research interest

The SiSCR is currently directed by Professor Surapol Issaragrisil who is the leading stem cell researcher in Thailand and the first president of the Society for Stem Cell Research (SCR). The SiSCR missions are as follows:
  1. To promote the basic research and create new knowledge regarding the biology and applications of embryonic stem cells, adult stem/progenitor cells, induced pluripotent stem cells, cancer stem cells, as well as the mechanisms underlying cellular differentiation processes and embryonic development.
  2. To develop the relevant technologies which are essential for the translation of stem cell research into clinical applications.
  3. To conduct and supervise clinical studies for assessing the safety and efficacy of stem cell therapy in treating several diseases which are the major health problems in Thailand.
  4. To promote the establishment of collaborative networks between stem cell researchers in Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University with stem cell researchers from both Thai universities and international research institutes.
  5. To become an international standard training center for postgraduate students and researchers in the field of stem cell and developmental biology in Thailand.
  6. To enhance the quality of stem cell research in Thailand toward international standard.
