Research mission /Objective

  1. Study the epidemiology and pathogenesis of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases which are problematic in Thailand and the AEC
  2. Active surveillance of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases
  3. Develop network and databases for discovery of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases
  4. Being the leading medical institute of AEC in research of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases

The scope of the research/expertise

Using sophisticated laboratory tests in the following syndromes to search for emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases.
  1. Infectious diseases with unknown causative organism: Influenza-like illness, acute meningitis, acute encephalitis, acute diarrhea, acute respiratory infection, acute febrile illness.
  2. Infectious diseases with atypical manifestations.
  3. Infectious diseases with increase in prevalence.
  4. Outbreak.
  5. Hospital-acquired infection with resistant organisms.
