Dr. Chanitra Thuwajit’s Tumour Microenvironment and Cancer Immunotherapy Team is interested in the tumor microenvironment and its effect on cancer progression and treatment response. She is also interested in dendritic cell (DC) therapy for management of advanced cancers. Tumor microenvironment, especially cancer-associated myofibroblasts (CAFs) and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs), is important to promote cancer. CAFs produce a variety of substances acting as growth factors, immune response-modulating proteins, anti-apoptotic proteins, and signaling molecules which can establish a bi-directional communication network with cancer cells to promote metastasis and chemoresistance. Subtypes of TILs are proposed to predict prognosis of patients in several cancers by modulate the anti-tumor immune responses. Her group aims to understand the interactions between cancer cells-CAFs-TILs. The intervention of these interactions and the method to increase tumor immune response are the ultimate goal to specifically treat the individual patient. DC vaccine represents a promising immunotherapeutic approach for treatment of advanced cancer as well as for prevention of cancer. Her group is interested to develop DC vaccine in several solid tumors and is focusing mainly in DC vaccine against cancer stem cell population. The clinical trial of DC vaccine is the goal to accomplish leading to encourage using DC vaccine in the guideline of cancer treatment. |
