Siriraj Urological Robotic Team in Lab

Backed with over a century of medical experience as a teaching hospital. Siriraj Hospital now offers an advanced technique using a robotic assisted surgery in the field of Urology. Geared to serve patients in Urology, Urological Robotic Surgery Center has been set.

Prostate cancer

1. What is prostate cancer?

Prostate cancer Prostate cancer is a disease characterized by the uncontrolled growth and potential spread of abnormal cells (malignant tumor) in the prostate gland. If left untreated, the cancer can grow and spread beyond the prostate into the surrounding tissues, lymph nodes, bones, lungs and liver. This spread is called metastasis. As a result of metastasis, many men experience aches and pains in the bones, weakness, and organ failure at the end.

2. Risks and Warning Signs of prostate cancer

Who is at risk for prostate cancer?

cancer Usually, prostate cancer occurs in men above 50 year olds. However, some younger men can have it. Those men who have a family history of prostate cancer have a higher risk. Therefore, screening and early diagnosis are especially important for individuals at risk.

Are there any warning signs?

cancer There are no early warning signs of prostate cancer. Prostate cancer usually grows slowly. Depending on location, many men do not have any physical symptoms in small tumor volume. If the prostate cancer grows large enough, patients may have the symptoms of straining to empty the bladder, urgency to urinate, frequent urination need to get up to urinate during the night, urinary flow obstruction, dribbling at the end of urination, or urinary leakage. However, these symptoms are usually due to benign prostate enlargement, and do not necessarily represent symptoms of prostate cancer

Robotic Radical Prostatectomy

1. What is robotic radical prostatectomy?

cancer Robotic radical prostatectomy is a removal prostate gland with cancer inside and pelvic lymph node. A complete recovery from prostate cancer without long-term side effects is, for most patients in robotic radical prostatectomy, better than open or laparoscopic method. Robotic radical prostatectomy is performed with the assistance of the da Vinci Surgical System that enables surgeons to operate complex surgical procedure with precision and control using via a few small incisions. The potential benefits are less blood loss, less blood transfusion, less pain, fewer complications, shorter hospital stay and a faster return to normal daily activities. Recent studies suggest that robotic radical prostatectomy may offer improved cancer control and a faster and higher return to potency and continence. However, these benefits cannot be guaranteed, as surgery is both patient and procedure-specific and this procedure may not be appropriate for every individual.
