Department of Microbiology is responsible for undergraduate and graduate students (Master degree in medical microbiology and PhD degree: international program in Medical microbiology).
The Department staffs have improved the medical microbiology curriculum for medical students in these aspects including: contents (to be related with new table of specification for basic medical science), student-centered approach to give the students for self-study, analyze, discuss, new knowledge-synthesizing activities handout, and evaluation.
For graduate program, the department has aimed for effective and quality teaching by improvement of teaching process to emphasize self-study, synthesize, analyze, and reduction of the course work credit .
The faculty members conduct highly impact research on clinical and molecular related microbiology especially on emerging infectious pathogens including HIV/AIDS, avian influenza virus, influenza virus, enteroviruses, mycobacteria, leptospirosis, Burkhodelia pseudomallei, drug resistant bacteria etc. The cluster in Bacteriology, Mycology, and Virology provides an outstanding training environment and emphasizes research opportunities in cutting-edge molecular techniques, ina wide-range of fields.
There are 3 floors for research laboratories with well-equipped for molecular and clinical microbiology laboratories, approximately 40 graduate students, 10 research scientists (PhD and MSc degree), and 20 technicians in the Department. Thus, it is large enough to provide a stimulating research environment but small enough to allow close interactions between the faculty and graduate students.
All qualified graduate students will be able to receive a scholarship from the Faculty. After graduation, they will gain such experience in medical microbiology research, which highly needed by various organizations, private company, research institutes, and academic institutions. Thus, they will have a good opportunity for their career development. |
