On 13 February 2013 at 15.00p.m., Administration Bld, 2nd Floor: Clinical Prof. Udom Kachinthorn (the Faculty Dean) and Assoc. Prof.Nisarut Opakiatkul (Director of Sirindhorn School of Prosthetics and Orthotics) signed an MOU with Mr.Christian Schierf (director of Human Study e.V.) in the opening of a joint "Blended E-Learning Program in Prosthetics and Orthotics."
According to Clinical Prof. Udom Kachinthorn, the collaboration between Siriraj and Human Study e.V. gives specialized personel in Prosthetics and Orthotics access to optimum education via Associate Degree (ISPO Category II), without having to quit their jobs due to time constraints. More importantly, it will elevate the quality of education in this particular field to meet the international standard, leading to better care and treatments for our patients.
Assoc. Prof. Nisarat Opartkiattikul ellaborated that the course will be conducted via satellite television and internet, divided into two sections: Theory and Practice--with a total span of 2 years to completion. Sirindhorn School of Prosthetics and Orthotics currently offer two programs: Regular and International--with a total of 92 students, 62 of which are Thai, and 30 are Foreign students (Cambodia, Vietnam, Phillipines, Nepal, Pakistan, Srilanka, and Japan). Featuring a variety of services to accomodate prosthetics and orthotics patients, the institution recieved the "ISPO category 1" quality certification (the highest ranking of ISPO) for Bachelor's Degree ciricullum--placing the institution as the first and the only of its kind in the entire ASEAN region, and 1 in 15 of the Prosthetics and Orthotics institutes around the world that recieved certification.
