Nurse anesthetist or Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is an important key of Thai Anesthesiology. With limited number of trained physicians, especially in the rural area, the training of nurse anesthetist is mandatory.
Siriraj CRNA training program was founded in 1979 by Dr. Thuppawongs. We have made more than 700 fine quality trained nurse anesthetists. The former directors of Siriraj CRNA training program were Dr. Rattana Haritworn, Dr. Sunit Toasuwan and Dr. Pornthip Tanmookayakul. The current director is Dr. Wanna Srirojanakul.
The training is a 1-year program which includes both classroom and practice training. The program met standards required by the Royal College of Anesthesiologists of Thailand. There are 30 positions available each year. The graduate will receive certfication by the Royal College of Anesthesiologists of Thailand.
At Siriraj, there are 67 nurse anesthetists. We are working closely with anesthesiologists for both educations and clinical workloads. The CRNAs are entitled in full time clinical service, taking calls during off hours, help with research projects, teaching CRNA students, joining postop round, checking narcotics and stock supplies and help with department admistration and also extracurricular activities e.g. teacher ceremony, Loi Kratong festival, new year party, etc.
The growth of the department is continuing and the CRNAs are one big part of the blossom and flourishing. Click the large botton below to see CRNA faculty roster in Thai. |
